Shoulder Dystocia
Shoulder dystocia is a delivery complication caused by an infant’s shoulder being stuck on a mother’s pubic bone during delivery. When shoulder dystocia happens, a doctor has a variety of techniques available to dislodge the infant’s shoulder. Some of these techniques require the doctor to apply traction to the infant’s head. If too much traction is applied, the infant’s neck may be strained causing nerve damage to the brachial plexus nerve bundle.
If shoulder dystocia causes damage to the brachial plexus nerves, there exists the possibility of the infant developing Erb’s Palsy. Aside from Erb’s Palsy, there are other, less severe injuries that may result, but even a minor injury may mean partial paralysis of the arm.
If you or someone you know has been injured due to shoulder dystocia, you may be entitled to monetary compensation. Please fill out the form below for a free evaluation of your claim by an experienced attorney. There is no cost or obligation for this service.
